PC West Shore job with an RS32, green transfer cab and a string of tank cars - 1 of 2
Title:  PC West Shore job with an RS32, green transfer cab and a string of tank cars - 1 of 2
Description:  Date approximate. This is the Scottsville Rd. crossing next to the Genesee River. East River Road is on the other side of the bridge. Anyone who went to RIT (or goes there now) is familiar with this location. A single PC west shore local (probably daily at this point) handled everything on line while skirting various thru freights. This is well before the Conrail upgrade, so there aren't that many of them. Today's WS is essentially a third main through the Rochester area and local WS traffic has diminished substantially.

PC West Shore job with an RS32, green transfer cab and a string of tank cars - 2 of 2
Title:  PC West Shore job with an RS32, green transfer cab and a string of tank cars - 2 of 2
Description:  Date approximate. Again, this is the Scottsville Rd. crossing, this time looking to the west toward Genesee Junction. The empty Monoco tank cars were pulled earlier that afternoon from the Monoco Oil Company spur in Pittsford. Monoco was one of the largest customers (in terms of car volume) on the WS. The Monoco site was configured for storage and distribution of petroleum products, liquid asphalt and fertilizers. It closed in the '90s and demolition of the site started in 2000 and was completed in 2003. Later it was the subject of various remediation projects. Needless to say, its closure took a big chunk out of the remaining WS freight business.

PRR bridge over routes 5 & 20
Title:  PRR bridge over routes 5 & 20
Description:  Unknown date, probably late '70s. early '80s. The "circle/slash" placard was one of many plastered throughout the area, protesting against a proposed incinerator plant. I always thought it looked like "no more steam locomotives" - ha!

Description:  Date unknown, probably late '70s or early '80s - it's still standing, used as (last I heard/read) a water source for the local fire department.
