Dormant Line in Missouri
Title:  Dormant Line in Missouri
Description:  The BN's former secondary main to Wichita is still in place in southwestern Missouri as far as Carthage although unused. This was once part of the Frisco's Northern Division and hosted the Monett to Wichita section of the Meteor through 1960. By 1985 it was called the 8th Subdivision of BN's Springfield Division and still posted as 40MPH track. BNSF didn't need it though and took it out of service in 1998. This is just east of Wentworth near MP290, looking east

Title:  MNA's Orphan Unit
Description:  The Missouri & North Arkansas serves an isolated portion of former MP trackage in Springfield MO with this unit. It's shown here resting in the industrial park located off Austin Drive. We'll have to see if it gets G&W orange. The last time I shot this unit it was still a KCT locomotive.

Severed at Rushville.
Title:  Severed at Rushville.
Description:  The line from Rushville to Winthrop MO was originally laid by the Rock Island in 1872 and crossed the Missouri River into Atchison KS in 1875. It was subsequently used by the Santa Fe and MoPac to get to St Joseph from Kansas. The six-mile route was taken over by the BN about 1995 when it abandoned its own Atchison branch from nearby Armour. Flooding led to a 6 Jun 2011 embargo on the line and it remains out of service and severed at the BNSF main at Rushville (at a switch known as Davies), even if the tracks remain in for now.

Coin Of the Realm: Six Axle GEs
Title:  Coin Of the Realm: Six Axle GEs
Description:  Three GEs run a freight south (timetable eastbound) on the St Jo sub on a gorgeous Saturday morning. Decent train; great weather, but I watched this one go by and just couldn't get too excited about six axle GEs. 20 years ago it was SD40-2s. I'm sure that in the early '60s trains led by gray F-units were considered boring in these parts. These too shall pass.
