Album Info:Today's plan ended up not going quite the way I had expected, but that's how things usually go when it comes to my train trips. Went down to Cincinnati for the first of three times this year to prepare for an upcoming surprise birthday Great Wolf Lodge trip for my little cousins with hopes of catching a specific train that day. Well, you'll see what happens. Enjoy!

MALX 4444
Title:  MALX 4444
Description:  The IORY local was well on its way back. However, little did I know, the train would be shoving its only car back to the yard at Valley Junction instead of pulling it once it reached home rails. So, another obstacle was thrown in my way. I found the resident GP9 working Consolidated Grain and Barge in North Bend where the first of two connections between the CSX and IORY are, giving a nice poof of oil while shoving a few cars around.

RMEX 4 and GMTX 340
Title:  RMEX 4 and GMTX 340
Description:  It had been a long standing goal of mine to be able to document the IORY local out of Valley Junction, Ohio working the distillery in Lawrenceburg, IN on the CSX Indiana Subdivision. With an upcoming Great Wolf Lodge Trip in Mason on the horizon, I knew today would be the perfect day to give it a go. The local runs quite early in the morning so I got a very early start and began making my way south toward the Ohio River. By the time I made it to Connersville, it was just beginning to get light. I thought to myself that I have enough time to photograph all the power laying around town, so I started off with everything at the Big Four Terminal shops. Ex-MAW 4 and a GMTX end cab sit front and center by the shop.

GMTX 3307
Title:  GMTX 3307
Description:  Further down sat GMTX 3307, a SD40-2 that has been on the property for quite some time. Big Four Terminal has another contracting group that works out of the shop that does repairs for engines. Currently, their contract is with GATX. When the units are not needed back right away after repair, the Big Four stores them here.

GMTX 2214
Title:  GMTX 2214
Description:  However, also in the yard was GMTX 2214, which had just been redelivered to the CSX from the Big 4 Terminal the week prior. Ive been wanting to shoot an interchange move on the Big 4 Terminal for a very long time, but unfortunately, they do it so sporadically it is hard to time when it will happen. One day hopefully.

Title:  WWVR 9339
Description:  I decided to stop by the Whitewater Valley Railroad and see what I could find there. The NYC ALCO was sitting behind the string of cabooses. Really hoping they will be using this on one of the Fall or Polar Express Trains this year. But we will see.

IORY 4869 and IORY 4088
Title:  IORY 4869 and IORY 4088
Description:  As it turned out, stopping in Connersville ended up being my mistake. The local was already out of Lawrenceburg and heading back to their own rails at North Bend before I managed to get down there in time. I should also mention that I stopped to get coffee in Brookville. Hey? Mans gotta have his caffeine. Unfortunately, it costed me. Next time Ill know better. Anywho. I did find some power sitting at the Kilby stone quarry, one of which was a completely repainted Dash 8. I was hoping for a crew to come grab it and take the train back toward Cincinnati. But no such luck.

IORY 3525
Title:  IORY 3525
Description:  While heading back east I could clearly here a different crew talking on the CIND channel. Thinking it might have been the local that went west a bit ago coming back, I went to see if I could find it working some industries around Lawrenceburg. However, no such luck. I could still here the train plainly, however, so I continued east. I crossed back over into Ohio and right as I came around the corner into Cleves I saw the CIND Transfer Job coming at me. I threw a quick u-turn and got to the Great Miami River bridge just in time to snap a single shot of the Geep and Dash 9 pulling the train into Valley Junction. Ive always wanted to grab a freight train here and never have had any luck until today. Just wish the leader would have been short hood forward!

IERR 5255
Title:  IERR 5255
Description:  With the IORY and CIND hardly going my way today, I decided I didnt want to take the big spin all the way around the city to the other side and go to Great Wolf Lodge to prep for the trip. Rather, being a Thursday, I figured I would make up for what I missed and try catching the Indiana Eastern heading back up to Cottage Grove from Paddys Run. Thankfully, when I arrived, the train was still there and just getting ready to leave. So, I went north of Nutrien to the Paddys Run crossing. Minutes later, the train began its trip back north with IERR 5255 solo.

IERR 5255
Title:  IERR 5255
Description:  I made a bullet dash to the Willey Road overpass. The bridge over the road still clearly says "Chesapeake and Ohio" on it. Thankfully, I beat the train just in the nick of time to get the shot. Last time I was here, it was raining very hard and my lens fogged up, distorting the photo quite a bit. Im glad I was able to redo it with the train going the other direction.

CSX 763
Title:  CSX 763
Description:  I intended on getting one more shot of the train around Idaho Street. When I arrived I waited, waited, waited, and waited some more before finally giving up and going back west. It turned out the train was holding out about a mile from where I was at until Queensgate could find a place to fit them. All while that was happening, the CIND local I had originally had come down to photograph got permission to continue west to Sunman. So, I ended up missing some really good shots of that train. Thats just how this day was going so far. So, I decided to work back west to Lawrenceburg and see what the Indiana Sub would have to offer me. There were two eastbounds coming; L452 and M216. I decided to grab L452 passing the CPL pair at Aurora, IN west of Lawrenceburg. It was a bit of a wait, but the train soon showed with a pair of GEVOs on the head end. The Indiana Sub signals dont have much longer for this life, as replacements are beginning to pop up rapidly, especially west of Seymour.
