Although this photo is not taken in the southeast, It doas have strong roots to the southeast being that it was built as a Southern Railway SD24 and roamed through out the Carolinas and such. After being retired by SOU, A batch of the SD24s went to Presion National where they were put in lease service with their high hoods and such still in tact. After that the units were purchased by the power short Chicago & North Western who had the turbo chargers removed and downrated to 1800 HP, But they retained their high short hoods during their time on the C&NW. After UP retired the units, They joined the WSOR's small fleet of former IC SD20s. WSOR is where the units got their chopped noses. |

What a treat the north bound WSOR local was. A trio of former CNW SD18s. These units stated life as Southern Railway high hood SD24s and when retired by Southern, Where sold to Presion National who used them in short term lease service. After that the units were sold to CNW who rebuilt them to SD18 specs by removing the turbo charger and dynamic brakes. During this time, The units had retained their high short hoods. When retired by UP, The units were picked up by WSOR who chopped the short hoods. At the time this photo was taken, Only one out of the four the WSOR had picked up had been repainted. |
