PRR 1361, K-4S; 1987 |
Description: |
#1361. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 October 1987. In the foreground is former Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 8 June 1957, and restored for excursion service in April of 1987. Passing by the AMTRAK Passenger Station is an eastbound trailer train pulled by three Conrail locomotives: #6311, #6485, and #5059. Photo taken from the 12th Street Footbridge. |

B boats |
Description: |
A westbound merchandise train, probably SETO judging by the auto parts cars head out, passes Syracuse with a B40 and a B36. The Albany Division was GE Central in those days, as Selkirk was a major GE shop, with several hundred units assigned there, including all the C30-7A's. Seeing 4 axle units was common on both road and yard assignments. Amtrak is peeking around the corner, coming in for its stop. |
