AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1949. The photographer's name and the date are not recorded. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9557 and two more "EF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horespower each. #9557 is an EF-15 built in September of 1948 and retired in May of 1966 after just 18 years of revenue service. |

24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #9557, ##9550-B, and #9788. All were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9557 is an EF-15 built in 1948. #9550-B is an EH-15 built in 1948. #9778 is an EF-15A built in 1951. They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with 154 empty hopper cars on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. |
