Title: |
CO 4-4-2 #281 - Chesapeake & Ohio |
Description: |
Built by Alco-Schenectady in 1903, this 4-4-2 "Atlantic type" locomotive was one of only 20 that were on the C&O roster but they did hold on for decades with thirteen of them remaining in use until 1949. This one is caught in my Hoosier state servicing Richmond, IN. Specs - class A-16, 73" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 22x26" cylinders, engine weight of 173,000 lb and tractive effort of 27,073. The class was rebuilt in 1920's with reduced boiler pressure but increased cylinder size. Net effect was the tractive effort remained largely the same. R.W. Legg photo |
