RFP 4-6-2 #301 - Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac |
Description: |
Here is another sharp looking example a 1918 Pacific loco built by Alco-Richmond as #10. It had very tall 75" drivers and developed 200 psi of boiler pressure for its 26"x28" cylinders. The engine weight started out at 285,000 lbs. and produced a tractive effort of 42,800 lbs. but in 1926 the RF&P shops rebuilt it to increase firebox size and was renumbered to 301. As a result, it increased the weight to 319,600 lb with no appreciable change in tractive effort. The entire class was scrapped in 1950 when RF&P dieselized. The date is an approximation. Warren W.
