Description: |
Dwarfed by the massive Alco-Schenectady built 2-8-8-2, two onlookers study the massive power. Note the interesting dormitory car to the right. Delivered to C&O in March of 1924 as #1115 (blder #64968), this class was known as "Simple Simons" or "Simons" (according to C&O Power) because they operated as simple-expansion articulateds, unlike the earlier compound Mallets. Specs - H--7, 57" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 23x32" cylinder. According to the C&O Historical Society, the engine weight was 567,500 lb with an impressive tractive effort of 108,550 lb.
