Description:  For the third time in ten years, I caught a D&H Bicentennial unit. The prior times were in Oneonta in 1981, and Mechanicville in 1981. Today it's outside the shop in Binghamton. In a year, it will be on the Tiogal Central. This unit was one of eight(501-508) RS 3s rebuilt by MK in the late 70s. The others were gone by this time.

Description:  From a long time ago. The D&H had some RS 3s rebuilt in the early 70s, repainted 506 for the Bicentennial, and true to D&H form, never got around to painting it back into the lightning stripe the other 7 units were in. This one went to Tioga Central, where it still has this paint job, as far as I know. In 1989, it was at Owego, with a freshly painted coach and S 2. The S 2 is notable also, having been the Buffalo Creek Bicentennial unit, their 46-see comment below.

Bicentennial unit twice over
Title:  Bicentennial unit twice over
Description:  Tioga Central 506 shows its colors, now a bicentennial unit for the second time. When new-actually a rebuilt unit classed RS3M by the D&H, it was their 506, then 1776, and wore this scheme. It never was repainted into the familiar D&H lightning stripe, but carried these colors til it was retired and sold to Tioga Central. They kept it in the scheme it arrived in, which proved handy a couple of years later when Tioga County marked their bicentennial year in 1991. The paint was touched up, and this is how it looked. Kermit Geary Jr lit it up at the night photo session.
