CSX 5401 Thunders Through Downtown Editors Pick! Contributor's Pick!
This photo was really only possible thanks to work on the A Line which closed almost all of the grade crossings in downtown Rocky Mount (only two were open) meaning there were almost no cars in downtown. Some other rail photo site rejected this due to being "oversharpened" whatever that means (seriously, I have no idea). Anyway, I've been trying to get a good shot of a train with the People's National Bank Building for a while - its a hard shot to get because of the lighting and shadows in downtown Rocky Mount - you really only have about an hour window with the tracks well lit before the shadows cover them - getting more of the building would be nice, but this worked out pretty good as is.

Zachary DeVore General The only thing that I can think would be the shadow - or maybe because they already had a photo from that location with more interesting power (and it was on the further track from the camera which seems to minimize the shadow issues) they decided that they didn't need another one (or maybe they just didn't want any more GEVO shots) (see here for comparison http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=171689&nseq=13 ). 7/4/2009 9:37:44 PM
Zachary DeVore General BTW, for a later view in approximately the same spot which shows the removal of some of the building fronts (which by this point only had the fronts left) see, http://penncentral2002.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2151366 from October 2009 12/21/2010 5:52:21 PM
