Southern Railway GP38-2 #5088 and caboose X201, used for two Opelika based assignments (the Opelika Switch Engine and the Roanoke Rocket), parked on the engine track
The cold, unheatzd caboose clearly has more icicles on the carbody than the idling locomotive. Southern Railway GP38-2 #5088 was built October 1973 and later became NS 5088

Jeremy Cole General Bernie, I have been searching for an in-service shot of this car for YEARS! I own this caboose now. It is in Calera, AL. I would very much appreciate it if you would consider selling me a copy of the slide or negative of the picture above. I would love to have a blow-up print of this shot to display inside the caboose! PLEASE contact me at southernx201@windstream.net Thank you VERY much. Jeremy 10/10/2010 6:13:37 PM

Jerry LaBoda General For the first seven to eight years of life this cab sat at the Southern freight house in Morganton, N.C., very rarely seeing use on weekends (most runs made without the caboose, some made with the local's road cab). 12/13/2017 11:40:50 PM
