Matthew Schimmel General Cool! Why is it the one and only? I am unfamiliar with Amtrak's rolling stock. 1/5/2013 8:46:36 PM
David Harding General @Matthew Schimmel: THis was one of three prototype cars built by Budd for Amtrak. They included two Viewliner sleepers and one Viewliner diner. They were supposed to be the next generation of Amtrak single level passenger cars to replace the Heritage fleet. But as with all thing Amtrak money wasn't available for orders of the diner but 50 sleeping cars were built by Morrison-Knudsen of Boise, Id. and are in service. This car sat unused at Beech Grove for a number of years due to it's unique trucks and no spare parts available tofix them. It's now back on the rail and these "Viewliner" cars are the basis for the new single level cars Amtrak is in the process of evaluating and will start receiving in I believe 2015. 8/15/2013 9:53:31 PM
