Name that locomotive  Contributor's Pick!       
So is this a GP40 or a GP38-2? Identified as both in the data base here, it turns out to be neither. Built as a GP40 in January 1966, it was IC/ICG 3032 before coming to UP as 854. It was one of six UP GP40s re-built to GP38M-3s. After the rebuild, it was UP 2531 before going to HLCX.

TS _Illinois General More confusion? Awesome! Don't recall what source identified it as a -3. Also don't know the difference between a -2 and a -3. Either way, still looks like a GP40 to me. Thanks for the comment, Steve 10/16/2018 12:52:13 PM
