LIRR RS1 #466 - Long Island RR  Contributor's Pick!       
Built in 1950 by Alco for the Long Island RR, this road switcher was an all purpose locomotive with a 1000 hp power unit and produced a tractive effort of 34,000 lb. Here it is team up with other switchers to haul a string of freight cars near Fresh Pond tower. Date is approximate. No photographer listed.

Mike Woodruff General This is an excellent photo! I would place the date somewhere in the 1966-1969 time frame. The C420s delivered in 12/63 introduced this paint scheme, so no RS1 would have received it before early 1964. These units look pretty grungy here, and the blue and yellow MTA scheme was first applied to them in about 1970. 1/22/2020 9:38:29 PM
