Late at night in Hoboken Terminal and the cool air is filled with the sounds of two 49-year old veterans rumbling away under the sheds of the Lackawanna Railroad's 110-year old waterfront terminal. These two locomotives are part of a fleet of 13 GP40Ps that were ordered for the Central Railroad of New Jersey and have been providing passenger service in the Garden State since October of 1968 under the banners of three different operators. The entire fleet has seen two major rebuilds over their long careers with some recently receiving their third. |
