Coal Power. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Englewood, Illinois, on 20 July 1947. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5474 and #5399. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics." #5474 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927 and retired in May of 1948, while #5399 was constructed in Juniata in August of 1924 and retired in November of 1953. Many thanks to Mr. Robert Hess for identifying the latter locomotive. |
