Revised Caption: "The Pennsylvania Railroad's feature exhibit [at the 1949 Chicago Railroad Fair] is their veteran Atlantic, No. 7002 ~ displayed as the locomotive that broke a world's speed record in 1905 by traveling 127.1 miles an hour." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7002, an E-7SA (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata as E-2A number "8063" during 1902, rebuilt as an E-7SA in October of 1918, withdrawn from service in August of 1939, renumbered "7002" in June of 1949, and presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. |
