Santa Fe 2903, a 4-8-4, was built in 1943 as one of the largest Northerns ever built. It and the rest of the 2900 class pulled passenger and freight trains across the desrt southwest for 13 years, before they were retired in 1956. 6 of the 30 units survive today, the 2903 here in Union, the 2912 in Pueblo, Colorado, the 2913 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the 2921 and 2925 in Modesto and Sacramento, California, and the 2926 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. |
