Chicago is one of the busiest railroad cities in the US. The Greater Chicago Area spans from Gary, Indiana in the east, to Joliet in the south, Naperville and West Chicago in the west, and Waukegan in the north. The city also has a rich railroad history. Major yards in the Chicago area include Barr Yard (CSX) in Riverdale, the former ICG yard in Homewood, the ex-Milwaukee Road yard in Bensenville, the BNSF yards in Cicero and Corwith, Norfolk Southern west of Hammond, along with BRC and IHB yards throughout the city. The windy city is also home to several of the US most well-known railfanning locations, including the BNSF "racetrack" between Cicero and Naperville, the former ATSF-ICG-Rock Island crossing in Joliet, Dolton Crossing in Riverdale, Roosevelt Road at Union Station, and many others.
