| Looking like a massive and forgotten giant in the scrap line is Spokane, Portland & Seattle Challenger type steam #905. Built by Alco-Schenectady in May of 1937 (serial #68995), it had massive tractive effort that helped both of the co-owners, Great Northern & Northern Pacific. After nearly 23 years of service, it was pulled from service and eventually sold for scrap in May of 1960. What a pile of scrap it would have made! Specs - Class Z-6.oil burner, 69" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, double sets of 23x32" cylinders, engine weight of 621,000 lb, impressive tractive force of 104,270 lb.
