We barely made it to the south side of Montpelier before NS 25A with the Wabash Heritage Unit on the front came around the corner out of town. The train would pause for a while in the siding for a rail gang and the local. Im just happy we made it!

While both BNSF Railway and Norfolk Southern currently run through the small town of Hardin, about 60 years ago this wouldve been both the Wabash and the mighty Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe as can be seen on the old warning sign.

Description:  As blast from the past on the Transcon, NS SD70ACe 1070 wearing the striking Wabash colors leads NS 956 through Norborne on a sunny June morning. While this line is currently part of the BNSF Marceline Subdivision, the NS Kansas City District parallels the BNSF both as single track lines between Hardin and WB Junction. This tradition has been going on since the days of the Santa Fe and Wabash and still continues through both BNSF and Norfolk Southern.
