PRR 4860, GG-1, 1965 |
Description: |
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Ivy City Yard in Washington, DC, on 20 January 1965. Prominent here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4860 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both are GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electrics rated at 4,620 horsepower each. #4860 was built in Juniata during December of 1937. In this context, they're heading toward Baltimore with the "Newsboys' Special." PRR 999400, MoW Tender, 1965 |
Description: |
WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona on 28 March 1965. Shown here is PRR #999400, a former steam locomotive tender that has been relegated to Maintenance-of-Way service. Instead of supplying a steam locomotive with water, it's now filled with fuel oil to replenish the steam-heat boilers in GG-1 electrics ~ like #4860, idiling-away on the adjoining track. Photo taken near HARRIS Tower, just West of the Harrisburg Passenger Station. |

Description: |
Still bearing the PRR lozenge logo, this 1937 Altoona built GG1 sits in an unknown location. Date is a "guess-timation" as there was nothing on the back of the photo taken by Forrest Trittenbach. Not preserved - scrapped. |
