CWI Alco RS-1 #260 - Chicago & Western Indiana |
Description: |
Jim Scribbins caught this Chicago & Western Indiana RS-1 #260 stopped at the 63rd Street overpass while on a fan trip. Built by EMD in February of 1950 for the CWI, it served until the closure of Dearborn Station in 1971 and the downsizing that CWI did. In 1971, the unit was purchased by the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad who quickly resold it to the Eastman Kodak Company in the same year. It was delivered to the Kodak Park Railroad in November of that year to serve the sprawling film and camera manufacturing facility in Rochester. After serving the industrial railroad for more than 25 years, the loco was donated to the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum on October 14, 1997, in an official ceremony at the museum. |

C&WI 260 at Normal and 51st |
Description: |
The Chicago and Western Indiana Railroad was the owner of Dearborn Station in Chicago and the trackage leading to it. It was owned equally by five of the railroads using it to reach the terminal, and kept those companies from needing their own lines into the city. |
