PRR 999400, MoW Tender, 1965 |
Description: |
WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona on 28 March 1965. Shown here is PRR #999400, a former steam locomotive tender that has been relegated to Maintenance-of-Way service. Instead of supplying a steam locomotive with water, it's now filled with fuel oil to replenish the steam-heat boilers in GG-1 electrics ~ like #4860, idiling-away on the adjoining track. Photo taken near HARRIS Tower, just West of the Harrisburg Passenger Station. |

WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona on 28 March 1965. Shown here (L to R) are partial views of PRR engine #4860 and PRR MoW tender #999400. #4860 is a GG-1 built in Juniata during December of 1937. #999400 is a former steam locomotive tender that has been relegated to Maintenance-of-Way service. Instead of supplying a steam locomotive with water, it's now filled with fuel oil to replenish the steam-heat boilers in GG-1 electrics ~ like #4860. They are situated on the Locomotive Ready Tracks across from HARRIS Tower, just West of the Harrisburg Passenger Station. |

PRR 4896, GG-1, 1965 |
Description: |
WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train from Harrisburg to Altoona during August of 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #4896 and #4880. Both are GG-1's built in Juniata; #4896 was built during April of 1940, but #4880 was built during February of 1939. They are parked on the Locomotive Ready Tracks just West of the Harrisburg Passenger Station, awaiting the call for their next runs eastward. Also visible on the right is PRR #999400, a former steam locomotive tender that has been relegated to Maintenance-of-Way service. Instead of supplying a steam locomotive with water, it's now filled with fuel oil to replenish the steam-heat boilers in GG-1 electrics. |
