The passenger train rounding the world-famous Helmstetters Curve, puffing lots of smoke while climbing the grade. The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers steam and diesel-powered trips during a May through December season, from Cumberland to Frostburg, Maryland. They also do special chartered photographic runs. This engine is a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 formerly of the LS&I (Lake Superior & Ishpeming RR). On this day it was pulling enough passenger cars that it also had help on the rear with WMSR 502. You can see the Great Allegheny Passage trail on the right. |
